Each cell stores a bit as the magnetic orientation of a free layer relative to a fixed layer. When the magnetic orientations are parallel, the cell resistance is low (logic 0); when anti-parallel, resistance is high (logic 1). Data is written by applying a magnetic field to flip the free layer orientation. Reading is non-destructive by measuring the cell resistance.
