The 8-bit I2C register selects which tap connects to the wiper output. On power-up, the EEPROM-stored wiper value is automatically loaded. Write mode updates the wiper position immediately; EEPROM write stores the value for next power-up. The device can be configured as a 3-terminal potentiometer (H, L, W) or 2-terminal rheostat (H, W).
