The 1801.8731 is a subminiature time-lag fuse from Schurter designed for overcurrent protection in primary and secondary circuits. The time-lag (slow-blow) characteristic allows temporary inrush currents during power-on while providing sustained overcurrent protection. The fuse complies with IEC 60127 standards and offers high breaking capacity suitable for industrial and medical equipment applications.

The time-lag fuse uses a fusible element with a special geometry (often with a reduced cross-section and solder blob) that creates a thermal delay. During normal operation and short-duration inrush currents, the element heats but does not reach the melting point. During a sustained overcurrent, the element heats beyond its melting point and the reduced section fuses, opening the circuit. The solder blob (in some designs) melts first and flows, further reducing the cross-section to accelerate fusing. The high breaking capacity is achieved by filling the fuse body with arc-quenching granular material (silica sand) that absorbs the arc energy when the element opens.
