The EPCOS/TDK B59990C0080A070 is a PTC thermistor for overcurrent protection from the B59990C series. With 55 Ohm resistance at 25C, a maximum working voltage of 80V, and a hold current of 30mA, this device provides reliable, self-resetting overcurrent protection for low-voltage circuits. Under normal operating conditions, the PTC maintains low resistance. When an overcurrent event occurs, self-heating causes the resistance to increase dramatically, limiting the fault current. After the fault is cleared, the device cools and resets to its low-resistance state, eliminating the need for fuse replacement.

The B59990C0080A070 PTC thermistor uses a polycrystalline barium titanate ceramic material with a very high positive temperature coefficient near its Curie temperature. Under normal current conditions, the device remains at ambient temperature with relatively low resistance (55 Ohm). When an overcurrent occurs, Joule heating raises the device temperature above the Curie point, causing a dramatic resistance increase (by several orders of magnitude) that limits the fault current to a safe level. When the fault is removed and the device cools, the resistance returns to its low baseline value, automatically resetting the protection. This self-resetting behavior eliminates the need for manual fuse replacement.
