The MX25L8006EZNI-12G is an 8Mbit Serial NOR Flash memory from Macronix’s MX25L8006E series, supporting Standard SPI and Dual Output (1I/2O) read modes. With a maximum clock frequency of 86MHz and 8ns access time, it provides fast read performance for boot code and firmware storage. The 4KB sector and 64KB block erase architecture offers flexible erase granularity, while the 256-byte page program buffer enables efficient write operations. The device includes 512-bit OTP area and a security register for unique device identification, making it suitable for secure boot applications.

The MX25L8006E operates as a SPI-interfaced non-volatile memory. The host accesses the flash through a standard 4-wire SPI bus (CS#, SCK, SI, SO). In Dual Output mode, data is output on both SI and SO pins simultaneously, doubling read throughput. Memory is organized into 256 sectors of 4KB each, with larger 64KB block erase available for faster bulk operations. Programming is performed on a 256-byte page basis: the host writes data into an internal page buffer, then issues a Page Program command which triggers an internal high-voltage program operation that completes within 3ms. Erase operations set all bits in the selected sector or block to ‘1’. The device enters deep power-down mode when the DP instruction is issued, reducing standby current to 25μA.
