The PCA9685PW is an NXP 16-channel, 12-bit PWM Fm+ I2C-bus LED controller. Each of the 16 channels provides independent ON delay and OFF delay registers with 12-bit resolution (4096 steps), enabling precise LED dimming, color mixing, and servo control. The I2C Fm+ interface supports up to 1MHz clock for fast updates. With 62 selectable I2C addresses, up to 62 devices (992 PWM channels) can coexist on a single I2C bus. The internal 25MHz oscillator eliminates external clock requirements.

The PCA9685PW uses a 12-bit counter running from the internal 25MHz oscillator to generate PWM outputs. Each channel has two 12-bit registers: ON delay (LEDn_ON) and OFF delay (LEDn_OFF), specifying when in the 4096-step cycle the output turns on and off. This allows precise phase control and duty cycle adjustment per channel. The overall PWM frequency is set by the PRE_SCALE register, dividing the oscillator to achieve 24Hz-1526Hz output rates. The I2C interface writes to the control registers and individual channel settings. The OE pin provides hardware PWM blanking, and the ALL_LED registers allow simultaneous updates to all channels in a single I2C transaction.
