The PWR12JTFA4R70 from Bourns is a 4.7Ω ±5% wirewound power resistor rated at 12W, part of the PWR series. The wirewound construction uses a resistance wire wound on a ceramic core, providing excellent pulse withstanding capability and high-temperature operation. The cement coating provides mechanical protection and flame retardancy (UL 94V-0). The 4.7Ω low resistance at 12W power rating makes this device suitable for inrush current limiting, motor braking, capacitor discharge, and other high-power applications. The axial through-hole package allows mounting on heatsinks or in airflow for improved thermal management.

The PWR12JTFA4R70 uses a wirewound resistive element consisting of a resistance alloy wire (typically NiCr or CuNi) wound on a ceramic core. The wire gauge and number of turns are selected to achieve the target 4.7Ω resistance. The wirewound construction inherently provides high energy handling capability, as the resistive element has a large thermal mass compared to thin film or thick film technologies.
