The TPS71501 is an ultra-low quiescent current, high-input-voltage LDO regulator from Texas Instruments. With a typical IQ of only 1.2μA, it is specifically designed for battery-powered applications where long standby times are critical. The device supports input voltages up to 24V and provides up to 50mA output current with an adjustable output voltage set by an external resistor divider. The wide input range, ultra-low IQ, and tiny SC-70 package make it an excellent choice for always-on power rails in IoT, industrial, and automotive systems.

The TPS71501 uses a PMOS pass transistor controlled by an error amplifier that compares a fraction of the output voltage (via the FB pin and external resistor divider) with an internal bandgap reference voltage. The extremely low quiescent current is achieved by operating the error amplifier and bandgap reference at very low bias currents. A bypass capacitor on the NR/FB pin can further reduce output noise. When the output current exceeds the limit threshold, the internal current limit circuit reduces the gate drive to the pass transistor, protecting the device. Thermal shutdown activates when junction temperature exceeds the threshold, turning off the pass transistor until the temperature drops.
