The TVR20821KSY is a 20mm metal oxide varistor (MOV) providing high-energy surge protection for AC power lines in industrial and consumer equipment.

The MOV is a voltage-dependent resistor with a nonlinear V-I characteristic. Below its varistor voltage, it presents very high impedance (near open circuit). When a transient voltage exceeds the varistor voltage, the impedance drops dramatically, clamping the voltage and diverting surge current away from the protected circuit.
