The STMicroelectronics VNLD5300TR-E is a fully protected low-side power switch from the OMNIFET III family, designed for driving resistive or inductive loads with one side connected to the battery. Built using ST’s VIPower technology, the device integrates an N-channel power MOSFET with intelligent protection circuitry. With 2 A continuous drain current and 300 mΩ typical on-resistance, it efficiently switches automotive loads such as relays, solenoids, and lamps. The device features comprehensive protection including thermal shutdown with automatic restart, overvoltage clamp, current limitation, and ESD protection. AEC-Q100 qualification ensures reliable operation in automotive environments from -40°C to +150°C. Fast demagnetization capability allows safe turn-off of inductive loads.

The VNLD5300TR-E operates as a low-side switch where an N-channel power MOSFET connects the load between the battery supply and ground. When the input pin is driven high, the internal gate driver turns on the MOSFET, allowing current to flow through the load to ground. The VIPower technology integrates the power MOSFET with protection circuits on the same die. Overtemperature protection monitors the junction temperature and shuts down the device when it exceeds the thermal threshold, with automatic restart once the temperature drops to a safe level. Current limitation activates during overload or short-circuit conditions, capping the output current at 2.8 A to protect the device. Overvoltage clamp protects against inductive transients by limiting the drain-source voltage. The status flag pin provides diagnostic feedback when a fault is detected.
