The device operates at a typical forward voltage of 3.0V with a continuous forward current of 20mA. The XZM2ACR78W operates through electroluminescence in a semiconductor junction:

1. Light Generation: When forward current (20mA) flows through the LED PN junction, electrons in the conduction band recombine with holes in the valence band, releasing energy as photons. The semiconductor material determines the primary emission wavelength (blue for white LEDs).

2. White Light Production: White LEDs use a blue GaN semiconductor die coated with a yellow phosphor layer (typically Ce:YAG). The blue light from the die excites the phosphor, which emits broad-spectrum yellow light. The combination of transmitted blue light and phosphor-emitted yellow light produces the perception of white light.

3. Thermal Management: The LED junction temperature must be kept below the maximum rating for reliable operation and consistent light output. The SMD package provides thermal conduction through the PCB pads. At 20mA forward current and 3.0V forward voltage, the LED dissipates 60mW of power, requiring adequate PCB copper area for heat spreading.
