With 5 Ohm resistance at 25C and 8.5A maximum steady-state current, this leaded disk thermistor limits inrush current in switch-mode power supplies, rectifiers, and motor drive systems, protecting fuses, switches, and rectifiers from damaging surge currents at power-on.

The EPCOS/TDK B57364S0509M000 is an NTC inrush current limiter from the B57364S series, designed to protect power supply circuits from damaging inrush currents at power-on. With 5 Ohm cold resistance and 8.5A maximum steady-state current, this leaded disk thermistor effectively limits startup surge current in SMPS, rectifiers, and motor drives. As current flows and the device self-heats, its resistance decreases, reducing power loss during steady-state operation. The wide -55C to +170C temperature range supports harsh industrial environments.

The B57364S0509M000 NTC inrush current limiter uses the negative temperature coefficient of a polycrystalline ceramic semiconductor. At power-on, the device is at ambient temperature with 5 Ohm resistance, limiting the peak inrush current drawn by downstream filter capacitors. As current flows, Joule heating raises the device temperature, causing resistance to decrease by several orders of magnitude. In steady-state operation, the low resistance minimizes power dissipation. When power is removed, the device cools and its resistance recovers, ready to limit inrush current at the next power-on event.
