The 82599 integrates a 10GbE MAC, XAUFI/PCS/PMA sub-layers, and auto-negotiation logic. It offloads TCP/IP checksum, segmentation (TSO), and large receive offload (LRO) from the CPU. SR-IOV virtualization enables multiple VMs to share a single physical NIC. Direct Cache Access (DCA) pushes packets into CPU cache for low latency.
