The TPS543C20RVFT is a 4V to 14V input, 40A synchronous step-down SWIFT converter from Texas Instruments, packaged in a 40-pin LQFN-CLIP (RVF) 5 × 7 mm package. It features internally compensated advanced current-mode control with adaptive internal compensation, integrated 3 mΩ/0.9 mΩ stacked NexFET power stage, and stackable architecture allowing two devices to deliver up to 80A with current sharing and clock synchronization.

The TPS543C20 is a 40A synchronous step-down converter employing internally compensated emulated peak-current-mode (ACM) control for EMI-sensitive point-of-load applications. The device integrates a 3 mΩ/0.9 mΩ stacked NexFET power stage with lossless low-side current sensing, delivering up to 40A in a compact 5 × 7 mm PowerStack package. Two TPS543C20 devices can be stacked together for up to 80A output with current sharing, voltage sharing, and clock synchronization. The internal integrator and directly amplifying ramp tracking loop eliminate the need for external compensation over a wide range of operating frequencies, simplifying system design. Optional API and body braking features improve transient performance by reducing undershoot and overshoot respectively.

The TPS543C20 uses an advanced current mode (ACM) control architecture with adaptive internal compensation. The inner current loop senses the inductor current through the low-side NexFET’s RDS(on) for lossless current sensing. The outer voltage loop compares the remotely sensed output voltage (via differential VSENSE pins) with the pin-strap programmable reference (0.6V to 1.1V) and drives the current loop through an internal integrator. The adaptive compensation network automatically adjusts its parameters based on the programmed switching frequency and output filter characteristics, eliminating the need for external compensation components. When stacking two devices, the master device drives the COMP signal to the slave, ensuring current sharing between phases. The API feature injects additional pulses during load step-up transients to reduce output voltage undershoot, while body braking shortens the body diode conduction time during step-down transients to minimize overshoot.
