Working Principle:VO618A-3X017T Working Principle

The VO618A-3X017T couples an infrared LED on the input side to a silicon NPN phototransistor on the output side through an optically transparent insulation barrier. When forward current flows through the LED (If), it emits infrared light that passes through the internal optical coupling and illuminates the base region of the phototransistor. The absorbed photons generate base current, which is amplified by the transistor action to produce a collector current (Ic) proportional to the LED forward current. The ratio of Ic to If is the current transfer ratio (CTR), which is 100 to 200 percent for the -3 grade at If = 1 mA. The high CTR allows the output to be driven into saturation with very low input current, making the device ideal for low-power microcontroller I/O isolation. The 5300 Vrms isolation barrier provides reinforced insulation per IEC 60747-5-5 with 8 mm creepage/clearance (option 6/8), protecting users and equipment from high-voltage faults. The low coupling capacitance between input and output (0.5 pF typical) ensures high common-mode noise rejection. The -3X017T suffix denotes the SMD gull-wing package with 8 mm creepage (option 8) in tape-and-reel packaging.
