The 2016L030DR is a surface-mount ceramic gas discharge tube (GDT) from Littelfuse, specifically designed for over-voltage protection in telecommunications and data communication equipment. It employs an inert gas ionization mechanism to rapidly transition from a high-impedance to a low-impedance state when the applied voltage exceeds the breakdown threshold, effectively shunting hazardous transient energy to ground. With an ultra-low capacitance of 0.7pF and insulation resistance exceeding 1GΩ, it has virtually no impact on high-frequency signal integrity, making it ideal for DSL, Ethernet, and other high-speed data line applications.

The GDT operates on the principle of gas ionization. Under normal operating conditions, the inert gas between the two electrodes remains non-conductive, presenting a very high impedance (≥1GΩ). When a voltage transient exceeds the DC breakdown voltage (240-300V), the gas ionizes and forms a low-resistance plasma channel, conducting the surge current to ground. After the transient subsides, the arc extinguishes and the device self-recovers to its high-impedance state without requiring external reset. The ceramic密封 structure ensures long-term gas retention and reliability across multiple discharge events.
