The AT93C56B-SSHM-B is a 2Kbit Microwire Serial EEPROM from Microchip, organized as 256 x 8 bits with a 3-wire Microwire-compatible serial interface. The ‘B’ suffix denotes the enhanced version with software data protection and ORG pin for x8/x16 organization selection. The -M temperature suffix provides an extended -55°C to +125°C range suitable for military and aerospace applications. The 8-pin SOIC package offers a standard footprint compatible with legacy Microwire EEPROM designs.

The AT93C56B communicates via the Microwire protocol using 3 signals: CS (Chip Select), SK (Serial Clock), and DI/DO (Data In/Data Out, time-multiplexed). The ORG pin selects the data organization: tied low for 256 x 8 (8-bit mode) or tied high for 128 x 16 (16-bit mode). Write operations require an EWEN (Erase/Write Enable) command before data can be written, and an EWDS (Erase/Write Disable) command after. Software data protection prevents accidental writes during power transitions. All erase/write cycles are self-timed with 5ms maximum duration.
