The DAC8814 is a quad, 16-bit, current-output multiplying digital-to-analog converter from Texas Instruments designed to operate from a single +2.7 V to 5.0 V supply. The applied external reference input voltage determines the full-scale output current. An internal feedback resistor (RFB) provides temperature tracking for the full-scale output when combined with an external I-to-V precision amplifier. A double-buffered serial data interface offers high-speed, 3-wire SPI-compatible inputs. A serial data out pin (SDO) allows daisy-chaining when multiple packages are used. A common LDAC input allows simultaneous update of all DAC outputs, and an internal power-on reset forces the output to zero or midscale at system turn-on.

The DAC8814 uses an R-2R ladder architecture for each of the four 16-bit DAC channels. In multiplying mode, the external reference voltage (VREF) is applied to the R-2R ladder, and the digital code selects the fraction of VREF that appears as the output current. The internal feedback resistor (RFB) matches the ladder resistance for temperature tracking. The double-buffered register structure consists of input registers and DAC registers. Data is shifted into the input registers via the SPI interface (SDI, CLK, CS). The LDAC input transfers data from all input registers to DAC registers simultaneously, enabling synchronous output updates. The MSB pin controls the reset behavior: when MSB = 0, reset forces zero-scale; when MSB = 1, reset forces midscale. The SDO pin enables daisy-chaining of multiple DAC8814 devices.
