The MCP16301HT-E/CH from Microchip is a 1A synchronous step-down DC-DC converter with integrated MOSFETs in a compact 6-pin SOT-23 package. With 2.0V to 5.5V input range and 500kHz switching frequency, it provides efficient point-of-load regulation for single Li-ion, USB, and 2-cell applications. Internal compensation and fixed frequency simplify design. The adjustable output via external feedback resistor divider supports any output voltage from 0.8V to VIN.

The MCP16301 uses a current-mode PWM control architecture with integrated high-side PMOS and low-side NMOS MOSFETs. The 500kHz oscillator sets the switching period. The error comparator compares the feedback voltage against a 0.8V internal reference and controls the PWM duty cycle. Current-mode control provides fast load transient response and inherent cycle-by-cycle current limiting. Internal compensation stabilizes the loop for a wide range of LC output filter values.
