The MIC5209-3.3YSTR is a 500mA low-noise LDO voltage regulator from Microchip with a fixed 3.3V output and 1% accuracy. Designed for battery-powered and noise-sensitive applications, it features ultra-low dropout voltage (10mV at light loads, 350mV typical at full load) and ultra-low output noise when used with an external bypass capacitor. The wide 2.5V-16V input range supports diverse supply topologies. Reverse battery protection, current limiting, and thermal shutdown provide robust fault protection. The SOT-223-3 package offers excellent thermal dissipation in a compact footprint.

The MIC5209 uses a P-channel MOSFET pass element driven by an error amplifier that compares a fraction of the output voltage with an internal reference. The 1% bandgap reference ensures tight output accuracy. When a bypass capacitor is connected to the BYP pin, it filters reference noise to achieve ultra-low output noise. The EN pin enables or shuts down the regulator; in shutdown, quiescent current drops to near-zero. Reverse battery protection prevents damage when input polarity is reversed. Current limiting and thermal shutdown protect against overload conditions.
