The NCN8024DWR2G from onsemi is a single smart card interface IC fully compatible with ISO 7816-3 and EMV standards in a 28-pin wide SOIC package. It supports 3.0V and 5.0V smart cards with a regulated 75mA card supply. Three bidirectional I/O level shifters adapt voltage differences between controller and card. 8kV ESD protection, thermal protection, and fault detection ensure robust operation. Clock division (1/1, 1/2, 1/4, 1/8) supports up to 18MHz card clock.

The NCN8024 provides a complete electrical interface between a microcontroller and a smart card. An internal DC-DC converter generates the 5V or 3V card supply from the VDDP input. Activation sequencing: VCC applied first, then I/O lines enabled, then clock started, then reset released. Deactivation reverses the sequence. Bidirectional level shifters with 15mA current limiting handle the voltage translation. Fault detection (overload, overheating, card extraction, supply dropout) triggers automatic deactivation.
