The ADSP-2181KSZ-160 from Analog Devices is a 16-bit fixed-point digital signal processor microcomputer from the ADSP-2100 family. With 40 MIPS sustained performance and 25ns instruction cycle, it integrates 80KB of on-chip SRAM (16K word program + 16K word data), dual serial ports with companding, 16-bit internal DMA port, and three independent computational units (ALU, MAC, barrel shifter). The KSZ-160 variant comes in a 128-pin TQFP package. Note: Not recommended for new designs (NRND).

The ADSP-2181 uses a Harvard architecture with separate program and data memory buses, allowing simultaneous instruction fetch and dual operand access. The three computational units operate in parallel: the ALU performs arithmetic and logic operations, the MAC executes single-cycle multiply-accumulate operations, and the barrel shifter handles shifts and normalization. Two data address generators support circular buffering and bit-reversed addressing for FFT computation without overhead. The program sequencer provides zero-overhead loops and conditional instruction execution.
