The AL8807MP-13 is a Diodes Incorporated continuous-mode buck LED driver IC operating from 6V to 36V input with an integrated NDMOS switch capable of driving up to 1A LED current. The 1 MHz fixed switching frequency minimizes external component size, while the CTRL pin provides analog PWM dimming control. Packaged in a compact MSOP-8 surface-mount format with exposed pad, it delivers up to 96% efficiency for MR16 LED lamps, LED strip drivers, automotive interior lighting, and battery-powered portable LED applications. Note: This product is obsolete; recommended replacement is AL8860MP-13.

The AL8807MP-13 operates as a hysteretic buck converter for LED current regulation. When the internal NDMOS switch turns on, current flows through the inductor and LED string, ramping up linearly. A sense resistor (R_sense) converts the LED current to a voltage that is compared to an internal 200 mV reference. When the sense voltage reaches the threshold, the switch turns off and the inductor current freewheels through the external Schottky diode, ramping down. The switch turns on again when the current drops below the lower threshold, maintaining constant average LED current. The CTRL pin voltage adjusts the reference threshold, providing continuous analog dimming control.
