The C1206X103KFRACTU from KEMET is a 0.01µF 50V X7R surface-mount multilayer ceramic chip capacitor (MLCC) in a 1206 (3216 Metric) package. X7R Class II dielectric provides a practical balance of capacitance density and temperature stability, with capacitance changing no more than ±15% over the -55°C to +125°C operating range. The FLEXITERM flexible termination uses a conductive polymer layer between the ceramic body and the external solder terminal, absorbing mechanical stress from PCB flexure and preventing crack propagation into the active area of the capacitor. KEMET MLCCs feature 100% pure matte tin terminations for excellent solderability and are RoHS compliant.

The C1206X103KFRACTU operates as a multilayer ceramic capacitor where alternating layers of ceramic dielectric (X7R barium titanate-based formulation) and nickel inner electrodes are co-fired into a monolithic structure. X7R dielectric is a Class II ferroelectric material based on barium titanate, where the capacitance varies with applied voltage (voltage coefficient), temperature (temperature coefficient), and time (aging at approximately -1% per decade hour). The X7R designation per EIA-198 specifies ±15% capacitance change over the -55°C to +125°C temperature range. The FLEXITERM flexible termination adds a conductive polymer layer between the ceramic body end and the external tin-plated copper termination. When the PCB flexes, the polymer layer absorbs the strain energy, preventing the crack from propagating from the termination into the active capacitor area, thereby maintaining insulation resistance and preventing short-circuit failures.
