The Richtek RT8068AZQW is a high-efficiency synchronous step-down DC/DC converter with a fixed 1MHz switching frequency. It features an input voltage range of 2.7V to 5.5V and provides an adjustable output voltage from 0.6V to VIN while delivering up to 3A of output current. The internal synchronous low on-resistance power switches (69mΩ/49mΩ) increase efficiency and eliminate the need for an external Schottky diode. Current mode operation with internal compensation allows optimized transient response across a wide range of loads and output capacitors.

The RT8068A uses peak current mode control with internal compensation. The high-side and low-side MOSFETs are integrated, switching at a fixed 1MHz frequency. The feedback pin (FB) receives voltage from an external resistor divider and compares it to the 0.6V internal reference. The error amplifier output controls the peak inductor current through the current mode modulator. At light loads, the converter enters power saving mode (PSM) to maintain efficiency. The 100% duty cycle mode allows the high-side switch to remain on continuously for low dropout operation. Protection circuits include over-current protection (OCP), under-voltage protection (UVP), over-voltage protection (OVP), and over-temperature protection (OTP) at 150°C.
