The TPS2549IRTERQ1 from Texas Instruments is an automotive-qualified USB charging port controller with an integrated power switch and cable droop compensation. It supports multiple USB charging schemes including USB BC1.2 CDP/DCP, Apple 1A/2.1A, and Samsung divider modes, enabling compatibility with a wide range of portable devices. The integrated 70mOhm power switch supports output currents up to 2.1A. Cable droop compensation maintains accurate voltage at the device connector by compensating for IR drop in the USB cable. The device features an enable pin for logic control, overcurrent protection, thermal shutdown, and reverse current blocking. The TPS2549IRTERQ1 operates as an integrated USB charging port controller and high-side power switch. Key subsystems include: (1) USB Charging Controller – detects the attached device type and applies the appropriate D+/D- voltage divider scheme to signal the correct charging current; (2) High-Side Power Switch – a 70mOhm N-channel MOSFET with charge pump gate driver controls power delivery to the USB port; (3) Cable Droop Compensation – monitors output current and adjusts the regulation voltage to compensate for IR drop in the USB cable; (4) Current Limiting – adjustable current limit protects against overcurrent conditions with foldback during faults; (5) Protection Logic – includes thermal shutdown, reverse current blocking, and undervoltage lockout.
