The DS125DF1610 is a 16-channel retimer operating from 9.8 to 12.5 Gbps, designed to restore signal integrity in high-speed serial links degraded by channel losses, crosstalk, and jitter. Each channel features a fully adaptive continuous-time linear equalizer (CTLE), a self-tuning decision feedback equalizer (DFE), and a clock and data recovery (CDR) circuit that re-times the incoming data with a clean recovered clock. The device is organized as four quads of four channels each, with each quad incorporating a 4×4 analog cross-point switch for flexible signal routing between inputs and outputs. The on-chip eye-monitor allows non-disruptive observation of the equalized signal quality during normal operation, while the built-in PRBS generator/checker enables BER testing without external equipment.

The DS125DF1610 receives degraded high-speed serial data and restores its signal integrity through a multi-stage signal conditioning pipeline. The input CTLE provides programmable high-frequency boost to compensate for channel loss, with the adaptive algorithm continuously adjusting the equalization to track changing channel conditions. The equalized signal feeds the DFE, which uses feedback from previously decided bits to cancel post-cursor intersymbol interference (ISI) that the linear CTLE cannot fully remove. The CDR extracts a recovered clock from the equalized data using a bang-bang phase detector and a low-jitter VCO, then re-times the data with this clean clock to produce a low-jitter output. The transmit FIR filter provides programmable pre-emphasis and de-emphasis to pre-compensate for downstream channel losses. The cross-point switch allows any of the four inputs in a quad to be routed to any of the four outputs, enabling flexible network topology configurations.
