The TJA1044GT/3Z from NXP is a high-speed CAN FD transceiver from the Mantis family, providing an interface between a CAN protocol controller and the physical two-wire CAN bus. It implements the CAN physical layer as defined in ISO 11898-2:2016 and SAE J2284-1 to J2284-5. The GT variant specifies timing parameters for data rates up to 5 Mbit/s in CAN FD fast phase with an improved TXD-to-RXD propagation delay of 210 ns. A very low-current Standby mode with bus wake-up capability supports energy-efficient system designs.

The TJA1044 operates in Normal mode for full-speed communication and Standby mode for ultra-low power with wake-up capability. In Normal mode, the transmitter drives the CAN bus differentially, and the receiver provides the received data to the CAN controller. In Standby mode, the transmitter is disabled but the receiver remains active, monitoring the bus for a wake-up pattern. Upon detecting a valid wake-up, the device signals the host controller. The GT variant adds tight loop delay symmetry specifications enabling reliable CAN FD communication at 5 Mbit/s.
