The ICE3AR1080JG is part of Infineon’s CoolSET™ family of integrated PWM controllers with built-in CoolMOS™ power MOSFETs. This device combines an 800V rugged super-junction MOSFET with a sophisticated current-mode PWM controller in a single DSO-12 package. The result is a highly integrated solution that simplifies flyback converter designs, reduces BOM count, and improves overall system reliability. The ICE3AR1080JG features active burst mode operation for meeting stringent standby power requirements, making it ideal for energy-efficient AC-DC power supply applications.

The ICE3AR1080JG operates on a current-mode PWM control architecture where the switch current is sensed and used for cycle-by-cycle regulation. The internal oscillator generates a fixed 65kHz switching frequency. During each cycle, the PWM comparator turns off the integrated MOSFET when the sensed current reaches a threshold determined by the error amplifier output. The device includes comprehensive protection features including over-voltage protection, over-current protection, thermal shutdown, and brown-out detection to ensure safe operation under fault conditions.
