The integrated desaturation detection circuit monitors the collector-emitter voltage of the driven IGBT during the on-state, detecting fault conditions such as short circuits or overloads that would cause excessive VCE saturation voltage. When a fault is detected, the gate is promptly brought low and a fault signal is communicated back across the isolation barrier to the controller side. The active Miller clamp provides a low-impedance path to ground during the off-state, preventing parasitic turn-on caused by Miller current coupling in high-side switch applications. With reinforced isolation of 5000Vrms and high common-mode transient immunity of 50 kV/μs, the PC925LENIP0F ensures reliable operation in the presence of the large voltage slew rates typical of modern high-speed power converter designs.

The PC925LENIP0F operates as a galvanically isolated gate driver with integrated protection features, using an optical coupling mechanism for signal transfer across the isolation barrier. The input side contains an infrared LED that converts the PWM control signal into light pulses, which are detected by a photodiode array on the output side. The output side incorporates several functional blocks: a high-gain signal amplifier, a 2.5A push-pull output driver stage, and multiple protection circuits. The desaturation detection circuit works by monitoring the IGBT’s collector-emitter voltage through an external high-voltage diode connected to the DESAT pin. During normal on-state operation, VCE is low and the DESAT voltage stays below the detection threshold. If a fault occurs (such as a short circuit), VCE rises, charging the DESAT capacitor. When the voltage exceeds the 9V threshold, a fault condition is triggered, immediately soft-turning off the IGBT gate and latching the fault state. The active Miller clamp activates when the gate voltage falls below approximately 2V during turn-off, providing a low-impedance path from gate to emitter to sink any displacement current coupled through the Miller capacitance, preventing unintended turn-on. The UVLO circuit ensures the output driver remains in the low state whenever the supply voltage is insufficient for proper IGBT operation. A separate fault feedback channel communicates fault events back across the isolation barrier to the controller.
