The PD69208MILQ-TR operates as the central control element in a PoE PSE system, managing the detection, classification, and power delivery to connected Powered Devices (PDs) across 8 independent ports. When a cable is connected to a port, the controller initiates a four-point resistance detection sequence to verify the presence of a valid PD signature (25kΩ characteristic resistance). This detection process uses low-voltage probing to avoid damaging non-PoE devices. After successful detection, the device performs classification by measuring the current drawn at specific voltage levels to determine the PD’s power class (Class 0 through Class 8 for 802.3bt). The integrated gate drivers control external MOSFETs that switch the 48-57V DC power onto the Ethernet pairs. Each port has dedicated current-sense circuitry that continuously monitors the port current, with the 12-bit ADC providing high-resolution current measurements to the host via the I²C interface.
