The TUSB320HAI is Texas Instruments’ third-generation USB Type-C configuration channel logic and port controller. The HA variant features an active-high enable pin. It uses the CC pins to detect port attach and detach, determine cable orientation, identify the role of the connected port, and advertise or detect Type-C current modes. The device can be configured as a Downstream Facing Port (DFP), Upstream Facing Port (UFP), or Dual Role Port (DRP), making it versatile for any USB Type-C application. Control is available through either I2C registers or GPIO pins.

The TUSB320HA monitors the CC1 and CC2 pins for pullup or pulldown resistances to determine port attachment, cable orientation, and role detection. In DFP mode, it presents Rp resistors on CC pins; in UFP mode, it presents Rd resistors. In DRP mode, it toggles between DFP and UFP advertisement. Upon attachment, the device detects the Type-C current mode (default 500mA, medium 1.5A, or high 3A) and communicates this to the system via I2C registers or GPIO outputs. VBUS detection is used in UFP and DRP modes to confirm a successful attach. The I2C interface allows runtime reconfiguration of port role and current advertisement settings.
