The 1401.7731 from Schurter is a subminiature slow-blow (time-lag) fuse for 5x20mm holder applications, rated for 250VAC. Compliant with IEC/EN 60127 standards, the time-lag characteristic allows short-duration inrush currents (such as from capacitive loads or motor starts) without nuisance tripping, while still providing reliable overcurrent protection for sustained faults. The panel-mount configuration with securing nut enables easy fuse replacement for service access.

The 1401.7731 slow-blow fuse uses a special element design that incorporates a short-length low-melting-point alloy segment (typically tin or tin-bismuth) soldered to a higher-melting-point wire (typically silver or copper). During normal operation and short-duration inrush events, the thermal mass of the element absorbs the energy without melting. For sustained overcurrent conditions, the low-melting-point alloy segment heats above its melting point and interrupts the circuit. The time-lag characteristic provides 10-100× longer trip time at moderate overcurrents compared to fast-acting fuses.
