The Schurter 1801.8731 is a time-lag (T) miniature fuse from the SPT 6.3×32 series designed for primary protection in electrical and electronic equipment. The sand-filled glass tube provides arc suppression during fault conditions, while the time-lag characteristic allows for temporary inrush currents without nuisance tripping. Approved to UL 248-14 and CSA 22.2 No. 248.14 standards, the fuse is suitable for applications complying with IEC/UL 62368-1 safety requirements. The 1801.8731 operates as an overcurrent protective device. 1) Fuse Element Subsystem: A specially designed wire element within the glass tube has a controlled melting characteristic. The time-lag (T) profile allows sustained currents at 1.1x rated current for over 4 hours, while tripping at higher multiples with defined time-current characteristics. 2) Arc Suppression Subsystem: The sand filling inside the tube quenches the electrical arc that forms when the element melts, preventing continued current flow and potential fire hazard. 3) Thermal Response Subsystem: The element resistance converts overcurrent into heat; when the melting temperature is reached, the element opens and interrupts the circuit. The time-lag construction uses a larger thermal mass, requiring more energy to melt, which provides inrush current tolerance.
