The DS1337U-33+ from Analog Devices (formerly Maxim) is an I2C real-time clock operating from 1.8-5.5V in a SO-8 package. It provides accurate time and date information with battery backup for embedded systems requiring persistent timekeeping.

The RTC uses a crystal oscillator (external 32.768kHz for DS1307, internal TCXO for DS3231) as the time base. A counter chain divides the oscillator frequency to generate seconds, minutes, hours, day, date, month, and year. The DS3231 integrates a temperature-compensated crystal oscillator (TCXO) achieving plus or minus 2ppm accuracy. Battery backup (VBAT pin) maintains timekeeping when main power is removed.
