The DS1844S-010+T&R from Maxim Integrated (now Analog Devices) is a quad 10-bit nonvolatile digital potentiometer with 10kΩ end-to-end resistance. Each of the four independent potentiometers provides 1024 wiper positions controlled via a 2-wire I2C-compatible interface. Nonvolatile EEPROM stores wiper positions, automatically restoring settings at power-up. The device operates from 2.7V to 5.5V in a 24-pin TSSOP package.

The DS1844 uses a resistor ladder network with 1024 tap points per potentiometer. A 10-bit digital word selects the wiper position, connecting the output to the desired tap. The nonvolatile EEPROM stores the wiper position for each potentiometer, ensuring automatic restoration on power-up without host processor intervention. The I2C interface allows individual or simultaneous control of all four potentiometers. Write protection prevents accidental EEPROM corruption.
