The ISL80019AIRZ-T from Renesas is a highly efficient, monolithic, synchronous step-down DC/DC regulator that can deliver up to 1.5 A continuous output current. It operates from a 2.7 V to 5.5 V input supply and provides an adjustable output voltage from 0.6 V to 5.5 V. The 2 MHz switching frequency allows the use of small external inductors and capacitors. The device features peak current mode control, selectable PFM/PWM modes for light-load efficiency, and internal synchronous rectification achieving up to 95% efficiency.

The ISL80019 uses peak current mode control architecture, comparing the output voltage feedback with an internal reference to generate a PWM control signal. The high-side and low-side internal MOSFET switches are driven synchronously to step down the input voltage. In PFM mode (light load), the device skips pulses to reduce switching losses and maintain high efficiency. Overcurrent protection limits the inductor current cycle-by-cycle, and a hiccup mode activates during persistent short-circuit conditions.
