The L4949EDTR-E from STMicroelectronics is a monolithic integrated 5V voltage regulator with very low dropout and additional functions including power-on reset and input voltage sense. Designed for microcomputer-controlled systems in automotive applications, it operates from 5V to 28V DC supply (40V transient) and delivers up to 100mA output. The device features a precision 5V±1% standby output, programmable reset pulse delay via external capacitor, and a sense comparator with open-collector output for monitoring input voltage. AEC-Q100 qualified and ECOPACK2 compliant.

The L4949ED uses a low-dropout pass element to regulate the 5V output. An internal reference and error amplifier maintain output voltage regulation across line and load variations. The reset circuit monitors the output voltage and generates a reset pulse when it falls below the threshold (4.5V typ), with delay programmable via the CT pin capacitor. The sense comparator compares a divided input voltage against a 1.23V internal reference and pulls the SO output low when the input drops below threshold. A preregulator (VZ pin) provides an internal stabilized supply. Thermal shutdown activates at 165°C junction temperature.
