The LM5119 is a dual synchronous buck controller from Texas Instruments designed for high-voltage industrial and automotive power conversion applications. It operates from an input voltage range of 3 V to 100 V, driving external N-channel MOSFETs for each output channel. The emulated current mode control provides excellent transient response and cycle-by-cycle current limiting without the need for external current sense resistors. The two outputs operate 180° out of phase to minimize input ripple current and reduce input capacitor requirements. Independent enable, soft-start, and current limit functions allow flexible power sequencing.

The LM5119 uses an emulated current mode control architecture that reconstructs the inductor current ramp internally, eliminating the need for external current sensing networks. The high-side MOSFET current is sensed through its RDS(on) or an external sense resistor, and the current information is used for both regulation and cycle-by-cycle current limiting. The error amplifier compares the output voltage feedback against a precision reference (0.8 V) and generates a control signal for the PWM comparator. The two channels operate 180° out of phase, effectively doubling the input ripple frequency and reducing the required input capacitance. An internal VCC regulator provides bias from the high-voltage input.
