The LMR14050SDDAR from Texas Instruments is a 5A step-down buck converter with integrated 90 mΩ high-side MOSFET operating from 4V to 40V input. Its 2.1 MHz switching frequency enables compact filter design, while the 1 µA shutdown and 25 µA Eco-mode quiescent currents extend battery life in always-on applications. Adjustable output from 0.8V to 32V with cycle-by-cycle current limit and thermal shutdown provide robust power conversion for automotive and industrial systems.

The LMR14050SDDAR uses a constant-frequency current-mode control architecture. An internal oscillator generates a 2.1 MHz clock. The error amplifier compares the FB pin voltage with the 0.8V internal reference, and the PWM comparator modulates the duty cycle of the integrated high-side NMOS switch. Current-mode control provides inherent cycle-by-cycle current limiting and excellent line transient response. In Eco-mode (pulse skipping), the device enters PFM operation at light loads to reduce switching losses and maintain high efficiency. The internal bootstrap circuit generates gate drive voltage above VIN for the high-side MOSFET. The PowerPAD on the WSON package provides a low thermal resistance path to the PCB for heat dissipation.
