The Power Integrations LNK3294G-TL is a member of the LinkSwitch-TN2 family of ICs for non-isolated off-line power supplies. It provides dramatically improved performance compared to traditional linear or cap-dropper solutions. The device integrates a 900V power MOSFET, oscillator, on/off control for highest efficiency at light load, a high-voltage switched current source for self-biasing, frequency jittering, fast cycle-by-cycle current limit, hysteretic thermal shutdown, and output and input overvoltage protection circuitry onto a monolithic IC. It supports buck, buck-boost, and flyback converter topologies and consumes very little current in standby, meeting all no-load and standby specifications worldwide.

The LNK3294G-TL integrates a 900V power MOSFET and a control IC on a single monolithic die. The device uses primary-side on/off control to regulate the output, eliminating the need for an optocoupler or secondary-side feedback circuit. The high-voltage switched current source self-biases the IC from the DRAIN pin, requiring no bias winding. On each switching cycle, the internal oscillator drives the MOSFET at 66 kHz with frequency jittering to reduce EMI. The on/off control scheme enables or disables switching cycles based on the feedback signal, maintaining high efficiency across a wide load range. Protection circuits including cycle-by-cycle current limit, hysteretic thermal shutdown (135-150 degC), output overvoltage protection, and input overvoltage protection ensure safe operation under fault conditions. The BYPASS pin capacitor value selects between two current limit modes for design flexibility.
