The LP2983 is a 150 mA low-dropout regulator from Texas Instruments designed for portable and battery-powered applications. The A-grade version offers tighter output voltage accuracy for precision low-voltage rails. The device features very low quiescent current (95 µA typical) and high PSRR (65 dB at 1 kHz), making it suitable for noise-sensitive loads. The enable pin allows the regulator to be switched off, reducing supply current to near zero. The small SOT-23-5 package minimizes board space in compact designs.

The LP2983 uses a PMOS pass transistor in a feedback-regulated LDO topology. The output voltage is compared against an internal precision bandgap reference by the error amplifier, which drives the PMOS gate to maintain regulation. The high PSRR is achieved through the high loop gain of the error amplifier and the PMOS pass device characteristics. The enable pin controls the regulator output: when EN is low, the pass transistor is turned off and the output is discharged. Over-current and over-temperature protection circuits ensure safe operation under fault conditions.
