The LTC3200ES6-5#TRPBF from Analog Devices (formerly Linear Technology) is a low-noise, regulated charge pump that generates a fixed 5V output from a 2.7V to 4.5V input. The device uses a voltage-doubling charge pump followed by a linear regulation stage, providing a low-noise output suitable for noise-sensitive applications. The 1.5MHz switching frequency allows the use of small 1uF ceramic capacitors, minimizing board space. The closed-loop output resistance is only 0.5 Ohm, providing excellent load regulation. The device requires only two external capacitors (input and output), with no inductors needed. Burst Mode operation at light loads maintains high efficiency. The shutdown pin reduces supply current to 1uA. The SOT-23-6 package provides a compact footprint for portable applications. The -5 suffix indicates the fixed 5V output version.

The LTC3200ES6-5#TRPBF uses a charge-pump doubler followed by linear regulation. (1) Charge Pump: The internal charge pump operates as a voltage doubler. During phase 1, the flying capacitor (CFLY) charges from VIN. During phase 2, CFLY is connected in series with VIN, producing 2xVIN at the raw pump output. The 1.5MHz switching frequency keeps the capacitors small. (2) Linear Regulation: The raw doubled voltage feeds an internal linear regulator (LDO) that regulates the output to exactly 5V. This LDO stage absorbs the excess voltage and ripple from the charge pump, providing a clean, low-noise output. (3) Feedback Loop: The output voltage is sensed by an internal resistive divider (for the -5 fixed version). The error amplifier controls the charge pump drive strength to maintain the LDO input slightly above the dropout voltage, minimizing power dissipation while maintaining regulation. (4) Shutdown: Driving the SHDN pin low disables both the charge pump and LDO, reducing supply current to 1uA.
