The MAL215371478E3 from Vishay is a 47uF, 16VDC solid tantalum chip capacitor in a D-case (7343-31 metric, 7.3×4.3×3.1mm) surface-mount package. With 900mO maximum ESR at 100kHz and 7.04uA maximum leakage current, it provides effective power supply filtering and decoupling for medium-current DC-DC converters and processor power rails. The MnO2 solid cathode system provides stable capacitance over temperature and self-healing capability.

The MAL215371 uses a sintered tantalum anode pellet with a thin Ta2O5 dielectric oxide layer formed by anodic oxidation. The manganese dioxide (MnO2) solid cathode provides the counter electrode. The MnO2 cathode system enables self-healing: if a localized dielectric fault occurs, resistive heating converts MnO2 to insulating Mn2O3 at the fault site, isolating the defect. This provides failed-safe behavior (gradual capacitance loss, not short-circuit).
