The SMAJ5.0A-13-F from Diodes Incorporated is a 5.0 V unidirectional transient voltage suppressor (TVS) diode from the SMAJ series in an SMA surface-mount package. It is specifically designed for protecting 5 V logic and power supply rails against ESD, EFT, and surge transients. The 600 W peak pulse power rating provides robust protection for USB VBUS lines, microcontroller power inputs, and other 5 V circuits. The low clamping voltage of 9.2 V ensures that downstream 5 V logic devices are not damaged by overvoltage transients.

The SMAJ5.0A operates as a unidirectional avalanche diode that remains in a high-impedance state during normal 5 V operation. When a positive transient exceeds the breakdown voltage (6.4 V min), the device avalanches and clamps the voltage to 9.2 V maximum at the rated peak pulse current of 65.2 A. For negative transients, the forward diode characteristic clamps at approximately 1.2 V. The low standoff voltage of 5.0 V means the device can be placed directly across 5 V power rails without interfering with normal operation. After the transient passes, the device automatically returns to its off state.
