The TPS40009DGQR is a low-input-voltage synchronous buck controller from Texas Instruments designed for high-efficiency DC-DC conversion from input voltages as low as 2.25 V. It integrates a 600-kHz fixed-frequency voltage-mode PWM controller with adaptive gate drivers for external N-channel MOSFETs. The 0.7-V reference voltage with 1% accuracy supports low output voltages required by modern processors and FPGAs. The device features programmable current limit using MOSFET RDS(on) sensing, eliminating the need for an external current-sense resistor.

The TPS40009DGQR employs voltage-mode PWM control with a 600-kHz fixed-frequency oscillator. The error amplifier compares the divided output voltage against the 0.7-V reference and generates a control signal for the PWM comparator. The PWM modulator produces duty-cycle pulses that drive the high-side and low-side N-channel MOSFETs through adaptive gate drivers with anti-cross-conduction logic. Current limiting is achieved by sensing the voltage drop across the low-side MOSFET RDS(on) during the off-time. The internal soft-start gradually increases the reference voltage to limit inrush current during startup.
