The Winbond W25Q128JVFIQ is a 128M-bit Serial NOR Flash memory with support for Standard, Dual, Quad SPI, and QPI interfaces. In a 16-pin SOIC package, it achieves clock frequencies up to 133MHz, with equivalent data rates of 532MHz in Quad-SPI mode. The memory is organized into 256-byte pages, uniform 4KB sectors, and 32KB/64KB blocks for flexible erase operations. Advanced features include a 64-bit unique ID, 3×256-byte security registers with OTP lock, SFDP support, programmable output driver strength, and both volatile and non-volatile status register bits. The 16-pin SOIC variant provides a dedicated /RESET pin separate from /HOLD.

The W25Q128JV uses NOR Flash architecture where each memory cell is a floating-gate MOSFET arranged in a NOR topology. Data is written via Channel Hot Electron Injection (CHEI): a high voltage on the gate and drain injects electrons into the floating gate, raising the cell threshold voltage to represent a ‘0’ state. Erasing uses Fowler-Nordheim Tunneling: a high voltage on the source removes electrons from the floating gate, resetting the cell to ‘1’. Reading applies a mid-level voltage to the gate; the cell conducts if erased (‘1’) or stays off if programmed (‘0’). The SPI interface serializes all commands, addresses, and data through the DI/DO pins (or IO0-IO3 in Quad mode). The internal control logic decodes commands and manages program/erase timing, status polling, and write protection.
