The ATMEGA164PA-AU is a picoPower 8-bit AVR RISC microcontroller from Microchip with 16KB ISP Flash, 512B EEPROM, and 1KB SRAM. The ‘PA’ suffix denotes picoPower technology with improved low-power performance. Operating from 1.8V to 5.5V at up to 20MHz, it provides 20 MIPS throughput with dual USARTs, SPI, TWI, 8-channel 10-bit ADC, 6 PWM channels, and JTAG on-chip debug. The 44-pin TQFP package with 32 I/O lines offers comprehensive peripheral integration for cost-sensitive embedded applications.

The AVR RISC core executes most instructions in a single clock cycle, with 32 working registers directly connected to the ALU for efficient computation. The picoPower architecture minimizes power consumption in all operating modes, including a real-time counter that runs in sleep mode with sub-μA current. The 16KB Flash supports Read-While-Write for boot loader operation. Three flexible timer/counters provide PWM generation, input capture, and output compare. The 8-channel 10-bit ADC with optional differential input handles analog sensor interfacing. JTAG provides boundary scan and on-chip debug access.
