The AZ1117EH-ADJ is a Diodes Incorporated 1A low-dropout adjustable linear regulator with input range 2.5V to 13.2V. The output voltage is set by an external resistor divider from 1.25V upward, with 1.3V maximum dropout at 1A load. It features internal current limiting, thermal shutdown, and excellent line/load regulation. Pin-compatible with AMS1117 and stable with 10μF ceramic output capacitors, it is widely used for 3.3V/2.5V/1.8V logic power, battery-powered instruments, and post-regulation applications.

The AZ1117EH-ADJ uses a PNP pass transistor in a common-emitter configuration to achieve low dropout voltage. The internal 1.25V bandgap reference is compared against the ADJ pin voltage by an error amplifier, which drives the pass transistor to maintain regulation. The output voltage is set by a resistor divider: VOUT = 1.25V x (1 + R2/R1) + IADJ x R2, where IADJ is typically 50μA. The low dropout voltage is a result of the PNP transistor’s ability to operate in saturation with only VCE(sat) across the collector-emitter junction. Internal current limiting senses the pass transistor current and reduces the base drive when the limit is reached. Thermal shutdown disables the pass transistor at approximately 155°C.
