The MCP6549T-E/STVAO from Microchip is a quad open-drain output nano-power comparator in a 14-pin TSSOP package. With 600nA typical supply current per comparator and 1.6V minimum supply, it is ideal for always-on battery monitoring in portable and automotive applications. The open-drain outputs can be pulled up to 9V for level shifting between logic domains. AEC-Q100 Grade 1 qualification ensures automotive reliability. Internal 6.5mV hysteresis prevents output chatter near the threshold.

The MCP6549 uses a CMOS comparator core with nanowatt bias circuitry. Each comparator continuously compares the non-inverting input against the inverting input. When VIN+ exceeds VIN- plus hysteresis, the open-drain NMOS output turns off (high impedance). When VIN+ falls below VIN- minus hysteresis, the output turns on, pulling to ground. The 6.5mV internal hysteresis creates a clean switching threshold. The open-drain output allows wired-OR connection and level shifting up to 9V via external pull-up resistor.
